Each time I photographed one of my wife’s decorated cakes I thought of the hours she had spent to make her work worth photographing.
How much was she paid for it? Well, she got a lot of respect and admiration from the people who knew who had done the cake decorations, and she sometimes got a few cents per hour for making a multi-tiered wedding cake.
How much did she save her friends by doing the work so that they didn’t have to buy a cake? Now that is the question that occupied my mind, over and over again. Why couldn’t she get paid as much as other cage decorators charged?
