Ceramic
Tile

The trouble with do-it-yourself ceramic tiling is that mistakes are so obvious. Whether the tiles are in you kitchen, laundry, or shower, everyone expects a perfect job.

When did you last notice how well the tiles were laid when you visited a friend’s house? Would you have noticed if one of the lines had been a quarter of an inch out of alignment? Of course! It is the mistakes that we notice.

I decided to do the job on the cheap. I had two shower taps coming through the tiles, so I had to create two circular holes through the tiles.

I thought that I was some sort of a genius when I spotted that there would be a half-inch chrome surround to each tap, so any mistakes that I made would be covered up. The only problem was that I cracked one tile in two places and another in three places, but I did manage to make suitable holes, and then stuck the bits together.

They looked great…for a few weeks, but then the cracks started to get more and more noticeable. As a craftsman, I hated producing shoddy handwork. Each time I looked at the job I was more unhappy with it.

That was before multimedia were invented, so I couldn’t get the benefit of a certified teacher of ceramic tiling right there on my computer. I was still playing about with programming a computer in BASIC to make it do interesting but not useful jobs.

I wish I had had access to Randy Davis’ multimedia package at that time. I could have made two perfectly circular holes through the tiles. Oh, and I would have known how to cut some off of the edge of tiles to make them align properly with the edge of the shower area, instead of having an unsightly offset.

Randy is a certified teacher of ceramic tiling. That means that he isn’t just an expert tiler. He knows how to teach you, so that you will find each job easy. His videos reflect more than two decades of his experience.

Of course, if you are confident that you can do a tiling job without making even one mistake, it would cost you less just to go ahead. However if you do make one mistake, it could cost you more than if you get Randy’s package, that will show you all the shortcuts and show you how to get it right the first time. Who wants some stranger in their house leaving a big mess?
